Free Phones in Iowa

There are two ways to qualify for a free cell phone:

Your income is at or below 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines
or You already participate in one of many government aid programs.

Program-Based Qualification

You are eligible for free cell phones, if you receive benefits from any of these programs in Iowa:

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as Food Stamps
Medicaid
Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
Federal Public Housing Assistance (FPHA)
Veterans Pension and Survivors Benefit
Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance (BIA)
Tribal Head Start If you meet the income qualifying standards
Tribal Administered Temporary Assistance for Needy Families
Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR)

Income-Based Qualification

You may also qualify for free cell phones, if your Total Household Income is at or under 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. The table below reflects 135% of the 2024 Federal Poverty Guidelines in Iowa:
